A Special Appeal At our Church Council meeting on May 22nd, the council decided that it is time to move forward on a few items that do not get into the annual budget but nevertheless need to be done from time to time in any organization.  These are:
/New Dishwasher – Our current dishwasher has pretty much packed it in and it needs to be replaced.  We are looking at dishwashers that would be appropriate to our needs.  Replacement costs for appropriate equipment will likely be in the area of $1200-$1500.
/ Plates and cutlery – For the last number of years we have been using disposable plates and plastic cutlery.  This is a sizable cost to our annual budget which is both wasteful of our financial resources and as we all know a severe impact on our environment.  We plan to purchase appropriate dishware and cutlery to suit our needs for Sunday refreshments at our fellowship time and other events.  The cost for this replacement will likely be up to $500.
/ New Rectangular Tables – Those who help in setting up the hall for various events know the difficulties we have with our rectangular tables.  Not only are they extremely heavy, many are splintered and damaged in very rough shape.  We plan to replace these as soon as possible.  We hope to purchase 20-24 tables at a cost of about $75 each which would include the taxes.  Total cost approx. $1500-$2000.
/ Parking Lot Upgrading – You will notice that we have done some parking lot upgrading including gravel on the west side of the hall in a new area for parking.  The parking area across from the hall doors needs gravel added to it.  The cost of Asphalting is beyond us at the moment but we do need to do something to enhance the parking lot and border it in some areas with wooden ties etc.  We expect this project would cost approximately $1500.   Our appeal is to the whole congregation to make contributions to these projects as you are able over and above your regular giving.  We would like to have all this in place by the end of June.  Please put your donation in a separate envelope and either put your gift in the offering plate on Sunday or mail it to the church.  Cheques should be made out to St. Helen’s Anglican Church and ‘Special Appeal’ written in the memo field. Your regular envelope number should also be on this offering, so we can credit you for income tax purposes.
