Please join us for Holy Week

Palm SundayMarch 25th
10am Holy Eucharist

On Palm Sunday we celebrate Jesus' entry into Jerusalem.  The crowds shouted Hosanna and words of welcome.  They cut down branches from the trees and waved their welcome.  Today we will process from the hall to the church waving palms and singing as we welcome our Lord into Jerusalem.

Maundy Thursday – March 29th
6pm - Potluck Supper
7pm – Institution of the Last Supper, Washing of Feet, Stripping of the Altar and Prayers at Gethsemane
On the day that we call Maundy Thursday, Jesus celebrated the Passover with his disciples.  It was the last supper he would have with them before his death on the cross.  Tonight we reenact the events of that day.  At the supper Jesus washed the feet of the disciples reminding them of servanthood. In the meal he took the bread, blessed it, and shared it with them.  He then took the cup of wine, blessed it, and shared it with them.  This is the moment we remember the beginning of the Lord's Supper and we in turn 'do this in remembrance of him'.  At the end of the service we strip away all the adornments of the sanctuary and leave it bare.  Following this service we go to our own 'Gethsemane' for quiet prayer, reflection, and meditative singing.

Good Friday at St. Helen's - March 30th
We have two services on Good Friday at St. Helen's.

10am - Stations of the Cross - The first is the stations of the cross.  We begin in the church then walk the way of the cross around the church grounds with stopping places for readings and prayer.  This service is child friendly and family oriented.  The service lasts about 50 minutes.  If the weather is unsuitable for being outdoors, the service will take place in the church.

11am – Good Friday - At the Foot of the Cross  - The service takes place in the church.  We remember the trial and crucifixion of Jesus and take this time to reflect on the gift of reconciliation of the world to God that Jesus has brought us.  We reflect on our own need for reconciliation.  We listen to the story of the crucifixion unfold through the readings of the scriptures, singing of hymns, prayer, and quiet reflection.
